Supporting businesses during COVID-19

As the impact of COVID-19 continues to disrupt the B.C. economy, there are a number of resources that businesses across the province can turn to.

Shop local through the Small Business Marketplace

With so many restaurants, stores, and cafes no longer serving customers in-person, making an effort to buy local has never been more important. To help the BC community come together and support local small businesses, Small Business BC has created the Small Business Marketplace. Whether you’re looking for freshly baked bread or marketing solutions, you can support a whole range of industries local to your area. Simply browse what’s on offer and click through to the websites of your local businesses to find out more.

Small businesses can post their products or services online, and businesses from any industry in BC are welcomed to participate. To sign up a business in your area, fill out the short online form

COVID support line for businesses

With new resources and initiatives being made available on a daily basis, it can become difficult for businesses to keep track of what they are eligible for. Developed in partnership with the BC Government and Government of Canada, the one-stop B.C. Business COVID-19 Support Service was launched on Thursday 16th April to aide businesses in navigating the current climate. From human resources advice to talking through funding requirements over the phone, this service is here to help.

Support Service advisors are available Monday – Friday from 8 am to 6 pm (Pacific time) and Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm at 1-833-254-4357. Inquiries can also be emailed to covid@smallbusinessbc.ca, or raised via the live chat feature available at www.covid.smallbusinessbc.ca.

For information on running a business during this time, contact the COVID-19 Support Service.

Join one of SBBC’s Digital Meetups

To help the small businesses of BC help each other, SBBC is hosting Digital Meetups, a series of community video calls for the small business community during COVID-19. Every Tuesday – Thursday at 11:00 AM, they will be hosting a Digital Meetup focused around one pressing issue regarding COVID-19. From how to generate revenue, to employment law, all small businesses across the province are welcome to join in on discussions on a variety of topics.

Business Improvement Areas of British Columbia (BIABC)

Representing the Business Improvement Associations (BIAs) of BC, the BIABC also has a resource center that businesses in B.C. may find useful.
