Vancouver’s Mount Pleasant neighbourhood will enjoy a splash of colour this summer with the return of the Vancouver Mural Festival.
A summer staple on the East Side, the festival runs from August 1st to 10th and is Western Canada’s largest annual free public art celebration. The festival is organized by Create Vancouver Society, a non-profit dedicated to artistic and cultural development across the Lower Mainland. Through the creation of permanent, large-scale murals, they provide a powerful platform for Vancouver’s diverse art scene to contribute to the city’s cultural legacy for years to come.
An Event for Everyone
A foundational policy of the mural festival is to provide an inclusive event intended for all classes, cultures, genders, ages and ability. The organizers believe it is crucial to the cultural health of the City of Vancouver to create tangible and lasting visual evidence of the rich diversity of voices that live and work here.
This year’s festival is bigger and better than ever before. 25 new murals will make their debut, alongside musical performances, talks and an open-air movie theatre. Visit the Vancouver Mural Festival website for a full rundown of the 10-day schedule.
The Vancouver Mural Festival is only possible due to the amazing volunteers who take part each summer. Interested in joining the team? Fill out the form on the Vancouver Mural Festival website to find out more.
